James Earl “Jim” McCommon, age 74, a resident of Brandon, MS passed away Wednesday, March 10, 2021 at the Mississippi Baptist Medical Center in Jackson, MS due to complications from Pulmonary Fibrosis and made his transition from his earthly home to his Heavenly home. Funeral services will be held 10:00 am Friday, March 12, 2021 at Ott and Lee Funeral Home in Brandon, MS. Visitation will be held from 9-10 am Friday at the funeral home in Brandon, MS. A private family graveside will be held at Crestview Memorial Gardens in Brandon, MS. All are welcome to attend we do ask everyone in attendance to wear a mask and practice social distancing.
Jim was born November 11, 1946 to James E. McCommon and Dorothy Wall McCommon in McComb, MS. He was married to Dorothy Cook McCommon. Jim was a member of Brandon First United Methodist Church in Brandon, MS where he sang in the chancel choir and was an active member of the Earnie Walker Journey Sunday School Class. He enjoyed woodworking, car restoration, his feline friends, building motorcycles, picture painting, playing his harmonica and fiddle. He loved his family, church family and spending time with them brought great joy to his life. He will be missed by all who loved and knew them.
Jim was preceded in death by his parents, James E. McCommon and Dorothy Wall McCommon Felder; brother, Robbie Felder; mother and father-in-law, Dorothy Bailey Cook and Harris Ray Cook.
Jim is survived by his wife of 50 years, Dorothy Cook McCommon; brothers, John McCommon and Joe McCommon; brother-in-law and sister-in-law, Bill (Linda) McManus; nephew, Dr. Jason (Jacqueline) McManus; niece, Allison McManus (Dr. Todd) Miller; many great nieces, nephews and a host of friends.
Memorials may be made to Brandon First United Methodist Church.
