James E. Ray, Sr. 74, a resident of Polkville and formerly of Ottumwa, Iowa died Sunday, April 22, 2012 at home. Visitation was held 5-9 pm Tuesday, April 24, 2012 and 10 am-2 pm Wednesday at the Polkville United Pentecostal Church. Funeral services was held 2 pm Wednesday, April 25, 2012 at the church with burial in the church cemetery. Rev. Barron Price, Rev. Jeremy Price, Rev. Mark Herrington officiated the services. Ott and Lee Funeral Home in Morton was in charge of arrangements.
Mr. Ray was a native of Ottumwa, Iowa. He was the son of Eugene and Ruth Ray of Ottumwa, Iowa. He was married to Frances L. Ray who was originally of Davenport, Iowa. Mr. Ray retired from Case Tractor after 26 years of service and in 1991 they moved to Polkville, MS where he continued to work at the Department of Wildlife and retired after serving 10 years. He loved God, his church family, gardening, hunting, fishing and spending time outdoors. He also loved his family and spending time with them brought great joy to his life. He will be greatly missed by all who loved and knew him.
Mr. Ray was preceded in death by his parents, Eugene and Ruth Ray, step father, Steve Lowe, brother, J.R. Ray and infant sister, Martha Jane Ray.
Mr. Ray is survived by his children, Holly Maier of Lobi, WI and James E. Ray, Jr. of Leclair, IA; step children, Joan Traxler Bradshaw of Polkville, MS and Larry Herron of Martinsville, MS; Sisters, Barbara Harden of Benett, IA and Berverly Holst of Davenport, IA; brother, Jack Ray of Keokuk, IA; grandchildren, Amanda Ray, Alex Ray both of Leclair, IA, Brice, Tanner and Maggie all of Lobi, WI, Jeffery L. Traxler, Kimberly Traxler and Debbie Stuart all of Polkville, MS; great grandchildren, Justin and Heather Stuart both of Polkville and one expected great grandchild of Bud Ray, Jr. of Leclair, IA; many nieces, nephews, cousins and a host of friends.
