James Orville Ryals, 86, passed away Monday, November 14, 2011 at University Hospital in Jackson. Visitation is 5-8 pm Wednesday at Ott and Lee Funeral Home in Brandon. Services are 12 noon Thursday at Ott and Lee Funeral Home in Brandon with burial in Crossroads Cemetery.
Mr. Ryals was a native of Neshoba County and a longtime resident of Rankin County. He was a member of Crossroads Baptist Church. Mr. Ryals worked for 16 years at Seale-Lily Ice Cream and then as an equipment operator for the City of Pearl, retiring later from the City of Brandon in Parks and Recreation. He was a member of the Woodman of the World, Pearl Masonic Lodge and American Legion. Mr. Ryals was a World War II Army Veteran serving in Reg. 345-87th Division Company #7 and was also in the Battle of the Bulge.
Survivors include his wife, Evelyn Ryals of Pelahatchie; daughters, Carolyn Guffey (Charles) of Gainesville, GA and Melanie Cole of Winter Haven, Florida; sons, Larry Ryals (Hazel) of Electic, Alabama, Charlie Doug Ryals (Linda) of Cato, Danny Ryals (Margaret) of Pearl and Ken Ryals (Teresa) of Pelahatchie; sister, Jean Nowell of Philadelphia; 14 grandchildren and 28 great-grandchildren.
Mr. Ryals was preceded in death by his grandsons, Tatton Rylas in 2010 and Rodney Ryals in 1965.
