James Lamar Rhodes, 83, passed away Monday, December 21, 2015 at Crossgates River Oaks Hospital in Brandon. Visitation is 4-8 pm Wednesday, December 23, 2015 at Ott and Lee Funeral Home in Morton and 9:30 am Thursday at Lodebar United Methodist Church. Services are 11 am Thursday at the church with burial in the church cemetery.
Mr. Rhodes was a native and lifelong resident of Rankin County. He was a member of Lodebar United Methodist Church where he served as caretaker for church and cemetery. Mr. Rhodes was a Korean War Army Veteran, member of the American Legion and had also served as a Cub Scout leader. He had previously worked for Illinois Central Railroad, retiring later from Marquette Cement Company and the Department of Education. Even though Mr. Rhodes worked away from home for many years, he always enjoyed being at home and taking care of his farm.
Survivors include his wife, Altus Harpe Rhodes of Pelahatchie; daughter, Judy Rhodes Davis (John) of Pelahatchie; son, James Lamar “Jim” Rhodes, Jr. of Pelahatchie; grandchildren, Courtney Rhodes, John Kyle Davis, Gatlin Rhodes, Ken Harpe Davis and Leah Davis. Mr. Rhodes was preceded in death by his parents, E. W. and Lillian Rhodes and brothers, Clifton and Johnny Rhodes.
