Funeral services for Mr. James Larry Smith will be conducted at 11:00 am on Thursday, February 2, 2017 at Cross Roads Church of God with interment in the Mississippi Veterans Memorial Cemetery with military honors under the direction of Ott & Lee Funeral Home in Forest.
Visitation will be from 5:00 pm – 8:00 pm on Wednesday, February 1, 2017 at the church.
Mr. Smith was born in Scott County on Monday, September 9, 1946 and passed away at the University of Mississippi Medical Center in Jackson on Monday, January 30, 2017 at the age of 70.
Mr. Smith was a longtime employee of PECO Foods, Inc. at Bay Springs, where he currently served as a superintendent. A Silver Star recipient, Mr. Larry was a veteran of the Vietnam War, serving in the U.S. Army. Favorite past times included hunting, fishing, and gardening. He was an avid football fanatic, and supporter of Ole Miss Football. Mr. Smith attended Cross Roads Church of God.
He is preceded in death by one son: Douglas Burkes; and one great-grandchild: Hazel Grace Burkes; his parents: Marzine and Ida Mae Goss Smith and his siblings: Ivan Smith and Dorothy Denton.
Survivors include his wife Etoile Smith of Forest; four children: Scotty Smith and his fiancé: Marie Garcia of Forest; Lee Burkes and his wife: Tammy of Koscuisko; Michael Burkes and his wife: Melinda of Morton; and Timothy Burkes and his fiancé: Nikki Simmons of Forest; fourteen grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.
