Graveside services for Mr. James “Mernie” Patrick will be conducted at 1:30 pm Friday, May 5, 2017 from the Antioch-Steele Cemetery with Elder Houston W. Patrick officiating under the direction of Ott & Lee Funeral Home in Forest.
Visitation will be from 11:00 am – 1:00 pm Friday at the funeral home.
James Ernest Patrick was born in Scott County, Rte.1, Harperville, MS on September 24, 1935.
A longtime resident of Scott County, “Mernie”, was a retired salesman with Ryan Supply Company in Jackson. Dubbed with the title of “shade tree mechanic” because of his love for tinkering with trucks and John Deere tractors, Mernie will be remembered for his enjoyment of racing go-carts in his younger days. He was an avid gun collector in days gone by. Mr. Patrick was an avid supporter of NASCAR, especially Dale Earnhardt, and a fan of the New Orleans Saints. He served his country in the U.S. Army. Mernie loved his family very much and was proud of the fact of being a member of the “Patrick Club.” He attended Antioch Primitive Baptist Church, was a selfless man, always putting others’ needs first, summed up by the statement, “he was the Good Samaritan on the Jericho Road.”
He passed away at his home on May 3, 2017 at the age of 81.
He was preceded in death by his parents: Doctor Brooks and Gracie Lee Madden Patrick; and three brothers: Herbert, Hiram, and Colin Patrick.
Survivors include his two children: Christopher Ernest (Amanda) Patrick of Long Beach and Robin Elizabeth Patrick Cook of Forest; three sisters: Nell Diffenderfer of Clinton; Mary McDonald of Meridian; and Merle (Raymond) Skinner of Union; one brother: Elder Houston W. (Maxine Cockroft) Patrick of Martin, TN; three sisters- in-law: Jo Frances Patrick of Brandon; Peggy Patrick of Jackson and Carolyn Patrick of Forest; several nieces and nephews and a host of cousins.
Pallbearers will be Scott Jones, Wes Jones, Jessie Jones, Phillip Patrick, Jamie Harrell and Jonathan Harrell.
Honorary pallbearers will be Kenneth Gilmer and Kenny Patrick.
