Janice Clay Covington, 73, went to be with her Lord on Wednesday, June 7, 2017 at Select Specialty Hospital in Jackson, MS. Visitation will be Saturday, June 10, 2017 from 1 pm until 3 pm at Ott & Lee Funeral Home in Richland, MS. Funeral Services will be at 3 pm from the Chapel of Ott & Lee with burial to follow in Glenwood Memorial Park in Richland, MS.
Janice was born on June 1, 1944 in Philadelphia, MS to the late Benjamin Pierce and Willie Pearl Perkins Clay. She was a graduate of Philadelphia High School and East Central Community College. She was a cheerleader in High School and College. She had been a resident of Richland for ten years and was a member of First Baptist Church in Richland. She was a former resident of Decatur, MS where she was a member of the Jaycees. She retired after more than 20 years with Atmos Energy where she was a customer service representative.
She was preceded in death by her parents; and a daughter, Kimberly K. Jones.
Survivors include her husband, David Covington of Richland, MS; three daughters, Pam Upton (Scotty) of Decatur, MS, Stephanie Hayles (Jerry) of Madison, MS, and Misty Hamil (Jamie) of Brandon, MS; a step-daughter, Kathy Cooper (Lance) of Brandon, MS; seven grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.
Memorials may be made to the Blair E. Batson Children’s Hospital in Jackson, MS.
