Janice "Lynn" Canterbury-Davis won her battle with Alzheimer's and ascended to the Church Triumphant on May 9, 2015. Lynn died peacefully at the age of 59 at Hospice Ministries of Ridgeland MS. Lynn was born November 3, 1955 in Jackson to Crisler Canterbury and Diane Smith-Canterbury. She is preceded in death by her paternal grandparents Earl Canterbury and Myrtis Dukes-Canterbury and maternal grandparents Melvin Smith and Fannie Lou Buckley-Smith.
In addition to Lynn's parents, she is survived by her husband of 35 years Richard Davis and sons MatthewDavis (Kacie) and Lucas Davis; her brothers Buck Canterbury (Nancy) and William Canterbury (Sarah); her uncle Riley Canterbury (Mary); aunt Karen Smith; and loving cousins, nephews and nieces.
Lynn graduated with honors from the University of Southern Mississippi in 1976 and earned a Masters in Education in 1982. She taught English 34 years across the United States and began her teaching career at Richton High School. Lynn followed Richard in his Air Force career and loved teaching in Georgia, Kansas, Wyoming and Arkansas. Lynn completed her career at Oak Grove High School in 2010 when she was diagnosed with Alzheimer's.
In lieu of flowers, the family request donations to the Alzheimer's Association (alz.org), Walk to End Alzheimer's, "Team Lynn" which will be held November 7, 2015 in Hattiesburg. A celebration of life will be held at 11:00am Saturday, May 16th at Westminster Presbyterian Church,with visitation starting at 10:00am 115 North 25th Avenue, Hattiesburg MS.
