Janice Pierce Dotherow, 86, of Brandon, went to be with our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, on August 16th, 2021. She was lovingly cared for by Hospice Ministries, Ridgeland, MS., after a brief illness. Janice, an only child, was born in Pattison, Mississippi, to Wylie Eugene Pierce and Zulieme Thetford Pierce on January 31, 1935. Janice graduated from Wetumpka High School and attended the University of Southern Mississippi, where she met and married the love of her life, the late Emmett Dean Dotherow, Jr..
“Mimi”, as she was affectionally known, is survived by two children, Pierce Dean Dotherow (Darlene), Brandon, MS. and Delcina “Dee Dee” Dotherow Parrish (Don), Dadeville, AL. She is also survived by 4 adoring grandchildren, Seth Dean Dotherow (Christian) Fairview, TN, Paul Greer Dotherow (Holly) Jackson, MS, Leslie Parrish Gattuso (John) Atlanta, GA and Austin Dean Parrish (Carlie) Dallas, TX. Mimi is preceded in death by her loving husband and parents.
Widowed at the age of thirty, Mimi went from being a full-time stay-at-home mom, to a career businesswoman. She retired after many years of service from Deposit Guaranty Bank Trust Division. Mimi was a shining example of courage and perseverance, demonstrating to her children they could accomplish anything they chose. She was a fierce negotiator and affectionally known as the person you needed with you when you wanted a “bargain” on anything.
After retirement, Mimi enjoyed volunteering at Rankin General Hospital. She had fond memories of monthly luncheons and periodic trips with the Brandon Seniors Group and St. Dominic’s Senior group, along with lunches with her Sunday School group at Brandon First United Methodist Church.
Her deep love for her grandchildren spilled out with every encounter. From shave ice and ice cream excursions, to Mexican dinners and dance parties in her always RED cars, she lived life to the fullest. Mimi frequently bragged on each of them, often sharing their latest accomplishments and how grateful she was to see each of them marry wonderful additions to her family.
Mimi was a stylish dresser. She always wore the latest fashion with matching shoes, handbag and jewelry. Her optimism and faith crowned her appearance, even in her final days of doctor visits and hospitals. She leaves a hole in our heart, but we have assurance we will join her in heaven one day.
