Mr. J. C. Delcomyn, Jr., a resident of Forest since 1947, passed away Wednesday, August 8, 2012 in Morton at the Mississippi Care Center following an extended illness.
Mr. Delcomyn was retired from Flo-Con Systems, Inc., as a production supervisor. He was member of the Forest American Legion Post # 9 and the VFW Post # 4971. He was a Mason and a member of the Forest Masonic Lodge and had just received his 50 year button from the Grand Lodge of Mississippi. He served on the executive committee of the Scott County Baptist Association and was an avid outdoorsman who loved to fish and hunt. Much of his early life spent coaching Little League Baseball and he was Scoutmaster for many years. Mr. Delcomyn was instrumental in helping build the present location of the baseball field, where the Forest Bearcats now play. In the 1940s , he was an accomplished player in the Forest Stars of the Highway 80 Baseball League. Serving his country in World War II, he was in the U. S. Navy. One of his proudest achievements was to be a very important part of the commissioning of the ship, USS PC 1181. Returning home after the war, he continued a lifetime of service. One of the first to help promote and help Forest, he served on the board to make sure that an airport was built here. He served on the Vo Tech Board of the Scott County Vocational School. He served a vital part in the construction of and the establishment of the Mexican Mission and the Choctaw Mission in Scott County. One of his most cherished relationships was with his good friend , Mr. Jack Stuart of Morton. They were friends and enjoyed a long business relationship. He was a member of the Liberty Baptist Church of Forest.
Mr. Delcomyn was preceded in death by his parents, a brother and one sister. He is survived by his wife of 66 years, Ruby Doris McCoy Delcomyn of Forest, one son and his wife, Gene (Bettie) Delcomyn of Brandon, one sister, Marion Seaward of Mobile, Al., grandchildren, Shanna Hodges Vaughn, who is deceased, Chad Hodges of Jackson and a number of nieces and nephews.
Visitation was held Thursday , August 9, 2012 from 5 p.m. until 7 p.m. at the Ott & Lee Funeral Home in Forest. Additional visitation will be on Friday at Liberty Baptist Church from 10 a.m. until the funeral time, 11 a.m. at the church. Burial will follow in the Liberty Baptist Church Cemetery with U.S.Navy Honors at the graveside.
Pallbearers will be Chris Bagley, Johnny Weatherford, Michael McCoy, Chad Hodges, Jason Weatherford, Hurley Ray Guilotte, Mark Guilotte and Jim Epting. Honorary pallbearers will be the men of Liberty Baptist Church.
