Mrs. Jeffie Litte Fairley, age 96, a resident of Pontotoc, MS. formerly of Forest, MS died Thursday April 23, 2015 following a brief illness.
Funeral services was conducted at 3pm Sunday April 26, 2015 from the Forest United Methodist Church with interment in the Harperville Memorial Park. Rev. Trey Harper and Rev. Gary Lee Prophitt officiated.
Mrs. Fairley was born in Madden to her parents Augustus “Gus” Johnson and Annie Parkes Johnson on October 11, 1918. She graduated from Harperville High School. She later attended Mississippi State Teachers College, now University of Southern Mississippi with a Bachelor of Science degree with her major in English. She was a wonderful Christian lady of the Methodist faith. She lived in Forest for 53 years where she taught faithfully for 31 years, with 20 years at Forest Elementary School teaching Third grade until her retirement in May of 1984.
She enjoyed her family, friends and will be greatly missed by all who loved her and knew her.
She was preceded in death by her parents and her husband, John Daniel Fairley.
Survivors include her three children; Margaret Ann Prophitt (Gary) Linda Hughes (Jay) and John Fairley (Sherri); three sisters: Nelda Jean Carnes of Starkville, Hilda Jo Salyards of Gulfport and Annie Lois Earp of Baton Rouge, LA. She also leaves a legacy of 13 grandchildren: Gary Lee Prophitt, Jr. David Prophitt, Dan Hughes, Jake Hughes, Kyle Fairley, Jeff Fairley, Jordan Fairley, Luke Fairley, Mary Kathryn Fairley, Anna Lee Fairley, Rebekah Fairley, Samuel Fairley, James Fairley and one great-grandson Ian Johnson Prophitt.
Mrs. Fairley’s grandsons served as pallbearers.
