Jessie Daniel Puckett, Jr., age 88, died Friday, September 27, 2014 in Brandon, MS. Services will be at 10 am Tuesday, September 30, 2014 from the Chapel of Ott & Lee Funeral Home with Rev. Grant McElveen Officiating. Burial will follow in the Puckett Cemetery, Puckett, MS. Visitation will be from 5:00 pm until 7:00 pm Monday, September 29, 2014 at Ott & Lee Funeral Home on Hwy 80 in Brandon, MS and one hour prior to the Service on Tuesday.
Mr. Puckett was born November 29, 1925, in Puckett, MS , the son of Jessie Daniel Puckett and Linnie Mae Purvis Puckett. He graduated from Central High School in1943. In November of 1943, he was called to active duty, serving in the Navy. After 3 years of active duty, Mr. Puckett was honorably discharged as a Quartermaster Second Class.
After serving in the Navy, Mr. Puckett returned to Jackson, Mississippi to attend Millsaps College where, in 1949, he received a Bachelor of Arts degree. He worked for two years at the Mississippi Game and Fish Commission which he left when he was accepted into Law School at the University of Mississippi. He graduated in 1953 with a Bachelor of Law Degree. After graduation, Mr. Puckett was employed with Humble Oil and Refining Company, which later became known as Exxon. He worked for Exxon for 25 years and retired in 1978. After retiring from Exxon, he worked for Forest Oil Company for several more years and retired from there in 1992. After leaving the work force, he bought the old home place and moved back home to Puckett and lived there until he moved to Emeritus of Heritage House in 2009, where he lived until his death. He was the youngest and the last of seven siblings.
Survivors include several nieces and nephews.
The family would especially like to thank the staff of Emeritus of Heritage House for their constant care and concern, his doctor, Dr. Holland Addison, Gentiva Hospice and Puckett Baptist Church.
