Dethloff, passed away from this life at
St. Dominic Hospital from a heart condition on June 6, 2013, at the age of 90. Ms.
Dethloff was born in Moss Point, MS, on May 14, 1923, to Carver Lanier
Cunningham (deceased) and Cora Irene Rodgers Cunningham (deceased). Visitation
will be 10am – 12 noon on Monday, June 10, 2013, at Ott & Lee Funeral Home
in Brandon with the funeral service at 12 noon in the chapel. Interment will be in Natchez Trace Memorial
Park in Madison. During WW II she served as a
WAVE in the U.S. Navy. After the war she
married her childhood sweetheart, Robert Lee Dethloff (deceased) of Escatawpa,
MS, on October 24, 1945. Together they
raised three children, Richard Dethloff (deceased), Karen Kirkpatrick, and
Terry Seal. Ms. Dethloff’s career
included running a mom and pop grocery store in Moss Point, MS, working at
Engles Ship Yard, the Veterans Administration, FHA, the Unemployment Service
Commission, and she retired in 1973 after working a long career from the IRS. Ms. Dethloff loved to travel
and after retiring she and her husband traveled in an Airstream trailer for
seven years touring the United States, Mexico, and Canada. She also traveled overseas visiting countries
such as England, France, and Spain. In
addition to her interest in traveling, she loved to draw and paint. She loved music and learned at an early age
to play the piano. While taking piano
lessons at the age of 4, it was discovered that she could play by ear. Growing up she played the French horn for the
Moss Point High School Band, and as an adult she loved to listen to music,
especially the classics. In addition she
was a member of the Lost Battalion and Survivors of the U.S.S. Houston
Association. Ms. Dethloff was a hard
working, loving, and caring person. She
especially loved and cared for her family.
She was always there for anyone who needed her, and she always did her
best in all situations. She touched the
hearts of all who knew her. She faced
life with courage and conviction. She
leaves behind two daughters, Karen Kirkpatrick and Terry Seal (spouse, Daniel
Seal), two granddaughters, Kristin Kirkpatrick and Julie Roy, and two great
grandsons, David Roy and Jason Roy. She
is preceded in death by her husband, Robert L. Dethloff, her son, Richard
Dethloff, her sister, Margie C. Dethloff, and her brother, C.L. Cunningham. She was loved and will be
greatly missed by her loved ones left behind to continue their journey on this
earth.
