Jim Eddie Wade, 71, went to be with our Lord on Sunday, November 7, 2010 at Hospice Ministries in Ridgeland. Visitation is from 1:00 pm –3:00 pm Wednesday at Ott and Lee Funeral Home in Brandon with a memorial service at 3:00 pm.
Born in Jackson, MS to Annie Lee Woolam Wade and Willie Dandridge Wade, Jim Eddie graduated from Central High School in 1957. While at Central, he served as ROTC Battalion Executive, Cadet Major, Honor Platoon, Visual Education Vice President, Homeroom President, Student Council Vice President and was voted “Friendliest”. After graduation from Central, Jim Eddie attended Copiah-Lincoln Junior College and Mississippi State University. He was at MSU when “Old Main” burned.
Prior to graduation from high school, Jim Eddie joined the Mississippi Air National Guard in 1956 and attended basic training at Lackland Air Force Base, Texas. In 1961, he started his life-long career with the MS Air National Guard at Hawkins Field in Jackson. During his 37 years of distinguished service to his country, Jim Eddie served in both the Vietnam War and Desert Shield/Desert Storm. He earned the Vietnam Service Medal with six devices, the Republic of Vietnam Gallantry Cross with one device and the Southwest Asia campaign Service Medal with Bronze Star. Other awards Wade received during his military career include the Combat Readiness Medal with three devices, National Defense Medal with one device, Air Force Reserve Medal with two devices, Air Force Outstanding Unit Award with four devices, Humanitarian Service Medal with one device, and the Air Force Reserve Meritorious Service Medal with eight devices.
Jim Eddie was a man of many talents. He was a great cook and used that talent for many Air National Guard functions, including the annual Thanksgiving and Christmas dinners, the Lion’s Club, and the annual Harley Davidson “Trail of Honor”.
He touched so many lives in such positive ways. Duty, honor, integrity, commitment, courage and selflessness…that was Jim Eddie. His last act of courage was his fierce battle with cancer…he gave it his all. His abiding faith in his Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, sustained him.
He will be forever missed by his loving wife, Jane; his daughter, Jennifer Wade Hansford; her husband Kevin; his grandson, Wade Scott, and all of his military family and friends.
Special thanks to his caregivers at Hospice Ministries in Ridgeland, MS.
