Mr. Jimmie Odell Lampkin, age 78, a resident of Morton passed away on Sunday, February 5, 2017 at Mississippi Baptist Medical Center in Jackson. His visitation was held 5-9pm Tuesday, February 7, 2017 at Ott & Lee Funeral Home in Morton. Services were held 10am Wednesday, February 8, 2017 from the Ott & Lee Chapel in Morton with burial in Allen Chapel Cemetery. Bro. Paul Smith officiated the services. Arrangements were entrusted to the care of Ott & Lee Funeral Home in Morton.
Mr. Lampkin was born in Rankin County on November 24, 1938. He worked at the Hudspeth mens group home as a caretaker for many years. Jimmie was known for his green thumb and grew many beautiful flowers and always had a bountiful garden. He was a very talented piano player and his family laughed and said that he played so loud at home that his neighbors would come and stand in the yard and listen to him play. Jimmie had a loving heart for stray animals and would always feed ones he would see on the side of the road and sometimes even bring them home. He loved his family very much and will be greatly missed by all who loved and knew him.
He is preceded in death by his parents, Simp P. Lamkin and Agnes Lee Fitzhugh Lamkin; 5 brothers, William, Jack, Tom, Sambo Lampkin and 1 infant brother; sisters, Irene Fortenberry, Mavis Stewart and Zellene Fitzhugh and daughter-in-law, Elena Lampkin.
He is survived by his loving wife, Ellaweeze Lampkin of Morton; children, William Jeffery Lampkin of Lena, Steve Michael Lampkin (Susan) of Morton and Leann Lampkin Dennis (Scott) of Pearl; 3 grandchildren, Parker Dennis, Katie Dennis and Lillian Herring; sisters, Trudie Shoemaker of Pelahatchie and Helen Beatrice Fortenberry of Forest; a host of nieces, nephews and friends.
Pallbearers were Larry Lampkin, Randy Shoemaker, Steve Johnson, Glenn Brewer, Scotty Fortenberry and John David Jones.
