Jimmie B. Thompson
Leesburg

Jimmie B. Thompson was born on April 17, 1941, and lived a wonderful life until his heavenly mansion was completed on December 18, 2014. He was the baby boy of 10 children born of parents, Jim & Lorene Thompson, in Scott County, MS. After battling melanoma cancer, he won the fight at 73 years of age. Jimmie was a loving husband, strong Christian father, devoted brother, caring uncle & compassionate friend. He was an excellent hunter who not only hunted to provide food for his family but truly loved his time outdoors enjoying the splendor of the Lord’s handiwork. For over 50 years, he labored as a self-employed painter relying solely on “word of mouth” recommendations, believing the quality of his labor would need no advertisement, and he was correct. During those years, he developed a prosperous business & painted some of the finest homes & businesses in the metro area. He also worked tirelessly to have a large garden each year & prayed the Lord would provide enough for his family, but also enough to share with others. He enjoyed delivering gifts of vegetables to his doctors & nurses at almost every visit. Jimmie’s love for the Lord and his love of music went hand-in-hand, and he enjoyed each opportunity to sing at area churches to tell others how the Lord had blessed his life.

He is preceded in death by his parents, Jim & Lorene Robinson Thompson; sisters, Clara Renfroe, Rachel Renfroe, Betty Ivy, Patsy Massey & Lucille Thompson; and brothers, James & Hilton Thompson. He is survived by his wife, Ellen McGehee Thompson of Morton; children, Tammy Brun (Van) of Pelahatchie, Lynne Stevens (Terry Brown) of Brandon, Joey Thompson (Gayla) of Pelahatchie, Johnny Walker (Wendy) of Canton, and Ricky Walker (Renee) of Pelahatchie; sister, Helen Shumaker of Brandon; brother, Bobby Thompson (Carol) of Forest; 12 grandchildren, Corey Stevens, Casey Stevens (Chesney), Camille Rogers Moudy (Brandon), Mason Rogers, Jack Thompson, Kimberly Brun, Calen Brun, Jacob Reeves, Austin Reeves, Kevin & Michael Perry; 2 great-grandchildren, Aria Moudy and Kenzie Walker; and a host of nieces and nephews whom he loved as if they were his own children.

Visitation was held December 20, 2014 at Ott & Lee Funeral Home in Morton, with the funeral service began at 3:00 pm December 21, 2014. Bro. Rick Hammarstrom officiated the service. Grandsons Corey & Casey Stevens shared endearing stories & read scripture, and Bro. Chris Nash led the congregation in song. Burial followed at the cemetery of Rehobeth Baptist Church.

Proud to serve as his pallbearers were his grandsons, Corey Stevens, Casey Stevens, Mason Rogers, Brandon Moudy, Calen Brun, Jack Thompson, Jonathan Walker, and nephews, Junior Renfroe, Randy Renfroe. Eugene Ivy, Patrick Thompson, Tim Shumaker, Ricky Thompson, Brent Thompson, Jason Massey & Michael Massey.

The family would like to express their sincere gratitude to the wonderful nurses & staff on the 5th floor at University of Mississippi Medical Center who loved & cared for Mr. Thompson & his family, and to the wonderful staff at Hospice Ministries in Ridgeland. We will be forever grateful.
