Jimmy A. Burkett, 75, joined his Heavenly Father on Saturday, March 25, 2017. Visitation will be Thursday from 5-7 at Ott & Lee Funeral Home in Brandon, MS. Services are 10am on Friday, March 31, 2017 in the chapel of the funeral home. Interment will follow in Lakeland Place Garden Park Cemetery in Flowood, MS.
Mr. Burkett was born in Harrisville, MS on July 16, 1941. He was reared in Jackson and graduated from Provine High School and attended Delta State where he played football for a year. He also attended Mississippi College. Jimmy joined the Jackson Police Department in 1963 retiring as Detective Sgt. in 1990 and then joined the Rankin County Sheriff’s Office as a Deputy, retiring in 2001. He coached girls’ softball for a couple of years, little league baseball and also he coached his son’s various sports teams.
Survivors include his wife of 53 years, Fran Burkett; sons, Lee Burkett (Cassie) of Littleton, CO and Jonathan Burkett (Sharon) of Arlington, VA; grandchildren, Paisley and Piper Burkett; brother, Johnny Walter Burkett (Pauline) of Houston, TX; step sister, Paula Jolly Antullis of Davey, FL; and nieces and nephews, Kimberly, Janet, Nathan and Eric. He was preceded in death by his father; mother, and step father, Gladys and L.G. Agard; a brother, Jerry Hiram Burkett and a nephew Paul Burkett.
