Joan McKay Arender went peacefully to be with her Lord listening to "Precious Memories" and holding her daughter Tina's hand. She was living at Brandon Nursing and Rehabilitation at the time of her passing on Tuesday, 22 May, 2018. She was 81 years old.
She is survived by her children Joe (Kathy) McKay, David (Courtney) McKay, Tina (Andrew) Beard and Eric McKay, niece Shawn, nephews Jerry and Terry, ten grandchildren Jody, Emry, Haley, Amanda, Justin, Corey, Kyle, Jessi Kate and Abigail, great grandchildren Karley, Kendal, Aiden, T.K., Evan, Trinity, Katelynn, Maryann, Makayla, Barrett and Warren.
She is preceded in death by her parents Albert Jerry Comfort and Alma Holmes Comfort, her two brothers Merle Comfort and Albert Jerry Comfort, Jr. her first husband, Ben Keith McKay, her second husband Paul Arender and her grandson Tatton Ryals.
Joan was born in Pisgah, Mississippi on 9 February, 1937. She graduated from Brandon High School and was married to Ben Keith McKay.
She was an accomplished high school basketball player with a state record for points scored, a piano player and sang beautifully. She loved sewing almost all of her daughter's clothes and gardening. She was a homemaker, worked at McRae's, Robbin Rhodes Rexall and later as a nurse's assistant at St. Dominic's Hospital.
She was loved by all who knew her and cherished by her family.
A funeral service will be held at 3 pm Saturday 26 May, 2018 at Holly Bush United Methodist Church, Pelahatchie with visitation to begin at 2 pm Saturday at the church. Reverend Anna Fleming-Jones will officiate the ceremony. All are welcome to attend and celebrate Joan's life.
