Jo Ann Birdsong “Shoemaker”, 61, a resident of Leesburg near Morton died Monday, April 18, 2011 at home. Funeral services were held 2 pm Thursday, April 21, 2011 at Ott and Lee Funeral Home in Morton with burial in the Leesburg Baptist Church Cemetery. Visitation was held 4-9 pm Wednesday at the funeral home. Rev. Scotty Smith and Rev. Junior Shoemaker officiated the services. Ott and Lee Funeral Home in Morton was in charge of the arrangements.

Jo Ann was a native of New Orleans, LA. She was the daughter of Elmer and Alice Mae Deason. She was married to Jessie R. Shoemaker. Jo Ann worked for Nichols Mental School for several years. She loved her family and spending time with them brought great joy to her life. She will be greatly missed by all who loved and knew her.

Jo Ann was preceded in death by her parents and a brother.

Jo Ann is survived by her husband of 25 years, Jesse R. Shoemaker of Leesburg; children, Jimmy Oneal Birdsong, Jr. of Leesburg, Billy Jo (Nicole) Birdsong of Pearl, and Vickie (Johnny) Bowman of Leesburg; brother, Jimmy (Connie) Deason of MO; sister, Daisy (Jerry) Reid of Pelahatchie; grandchildren, Megan Massey, Elizabeth Watts, Christian Jolly, Brianna Birdsong and Brandon Birdsong; one great grandchild; a niece and a host of friends.

Pallbearers were Johnny Dean, James Dean, Jeffery Dean, Michael Craig, Johnny Bowman, Justin Dean, Jerry Reid and serving as honorary pallbearer was Brandon Birdsong.
