On October 11, 2013, Jo Ann Robertson Killebrew died peacefully at home in Forest. Visitation will be at Forest Baptist Church on Monday, October 14, from 11:30 to 12:30 with a funeral service following at 1 p. m. Burial will be in Mizpah Cemetery in Durant. Rev. Scott Fortenberry and Rev. Sonny Adkins will officate.
Jo Ann Robertson was born in Durant, Mississippi on September 13, 1938, the second child of Joseph Clarence Robertson and Lois Greer Robertson. On June 14, 1956, Jo Ann wed Bobby Eugene Killebrew, whom she met while he was attending Holmes County Junior College. In the early days of their 57 years of marriage, they were students at Mississippi State University, where she majored in business education.
After college, they lived in Durant, where she was secretary to the principal of the Durant Separate School District. In August of 1976 the couple moved their family to Forest. Jo Ann continued her working career by serving as secretary of the superintendent of the Forest Municipal School District and later office manager of the school district. Jo Ann loved her career because she could use her business skills and still be very involved with her children’s activities at school, and also because she had a passion for helping students.
Mrs. Killebrew was committed to serving Jesus Christ. She taught Sunday School, served as church secretary and church clerk, and worked in many church activities. She was a member of First Baptist Church of Durant and Forest Baptist Church.
Jo Ann loved to study genealogy, tell stories to children, and talk with people. She had a genuine love for people and she truly never met a stranger.
Mrs. Killebrew was preceded in death by her parents and one sister, Janice Robertson Rucker. She is survived by her husband, Bobby Eugene Killebrew, one daughter, Karan Killebrew Clark (Eric), one son, Marcus Eugene Killebrew, five grandchildren, and one great grandchild on the way. Her grandchildren are Charles Clark (Katy), Catherine Clark, Jon Marc Killebrew, Jacob Killebrew, and Joseph Killebrew.
Pallbearers are Milan Killebrew, Terry Wynne,Chris Rousseau', Charles Clark, Joseph Killebrew, Jacob Killebrew, Jon Marc Killebrew and Ronnie Killebrew.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Forest Baptist Church, 439 East First Street, Forest, MS 39074, or to the Mustard Seed, 1085 Luckney Road, Brandon, MS 39047.
