Joanne Key Bain

Joanne Key Bain, 90, of Auburn, AL (formerly Clinton, MS) passed away on February 6, 2025. 

Joanne was born on March 7, 1934 in Lake, MS to Austin and Eunice Key. After graduating from high school, she attended East Central Junior College. She married Hugh Gerald (Jerry) Bain in 1954 and together they raised 2 children in Metairie, LA and later Mobile, AL. Following her husband’s death in 1978, she returned to Mississippi and worked as the Secretary to the Commissioner of Insurance for the State of Mississippi, a position she held for 19 years. 

Ms. Bain was an active member of the Clinton Chapter of the Order of the Eastern Star and enjoyed serving as her chapter’s Worthy Matron in 1994-95. She was an active member of First Baptist Clinton and enjoyed many special friendships and traveling with her church group. Joanne also enjoyed service to the Clinton community as a member of the Pilot Club. 

She was preceded in death by her parents, Austin Key and Eunice Key Risher, her husband Jerry Bain, and siblings Dorothy Weems and Tommy Key. 

Ms. Bain is survived by her brother Glenn (Joan) Key, her daughter Beverly (Curt) Marshall, and son Robert (Jenny) Bain. She is survived by four adult grandchildren – Sara (Mark) DiRuscio, Scott (Rachael) Marshall, Carl Bain, and Jennifer Bain. She is also survived by six great grandchildren. 

A committal service will be held at the pavilion at Lakewood Memorial Park on February 14 at 11 am.  

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to a charity of your choice or the Alzheimer’s Association.
