Mr. Joe Ellis Davis, 92, a resident of Brandon, MS died Sunday, July 5, 2015 at the VA Nursing Home in Jackson, MS where he received compassionate care by their kind staff. Funeral services will be held at 3 pm Tuesday, July 7, 2015 at Ott and Lee Funeral Home in Brandon with the interment in the Floral Hills Memory Gardens in Pearl, MS. Visitation will be held from 1-3 pm Tuesday at the funeral home. Dr. Keith Grubbs will officiate the services. Arrangements are entrusted to the care of Ott and Lee Funeral Home in Brandon.
He was born on October 15, 1922 in Ludlow, MS. Joe was a decorated WWII veteran with the Army Air Corp in Bassingborn, England. He was a ball turret gunner on a B-17 Flying Fortress, flying 35 missions over Europe including D-Day. Joe served in the Air Force until his retirement as a Senior Master Sergeant in 1965. He worked for Valley Food Services in Flowood for 14 more years.
Joe was a loving and devoted husband and father who will be missed by his loving family and friends, some of whom he met regularly at his Brandon Coffee Club. He loved the outdoors and traveled extensively. He was a member of Park Place Baptist Church in Pearl, MS.
Joe was preceded in death by his parents, Joseph S. and Willie V. Allen Davis; his late wife, Flo Fletcher Davis; his brothers W.J., Clifton, Curtis and John Davis and his sister, Myrtis Davis Lehner.
Joe is survived by his wife, Macy Bruce Davis; son, Richard Davis, Sr.; grandson, Richard Davis, Jr.; granddaughter, Dana Davis Garcia; great granddaughters, Ashley and Lindsey Garcia and Heather Davis; great grandson, Seth Davis; sisters, Clara Davis and Dorothy Dickerson; step daughter, Delia Smith and her husband Patrick Hilton and their daughter Ava Hilton.
Serving as pallbearers will be Richard Davis, Jr., Jesse Davis, Mickey Lehner, Sean Davis, Mike Davis and Brandon Thompson.
In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to Park Place Baptist Church, Samaritan’s Purse or your favorite charity of your choice.
