Joe B. Manton, loving husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, brother, uncle, and friend died on Saturday April 19, 2014 at the age of 93 in Houston, Texas. He was born in Columbia, MS and was a long time resident of Jackson and Brandon before moving to Houston in late 2011 to be closer to his sons.
Joe served in the Army during WWII as a member of the 6th Infantry Engineers in the Pacific and was also called to active duty during the Korean War. He married his beautiful bride, Louise Bergin, on February 7, 1947 and had three sons.
Joe worked for 37 years with Bell South where he performed several duties and finished his career as a Supervisor. He was a great handyman, enjoyed fishing, gardening, being outdoors, and volunteering at the church. His greatest pleasure was spending time with his family and friends.
Joe is survived by his wife, Louise, and his sons; Ron and his wife Brenda; Don and his wife Sherry; and daughter-in-law; Jessie (Joey). His grandchildren are Jason, Katie, Kent, Josh, and Elisabeth and he also has five great-grandchildren. His surviving sister is Irene Vantrease.
Visitation will be from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. on Thursday, April 24, 2014 and funeral services will be at 11:00 a.m. on Friday, April 25, 2014. Both will be held at Ott & Lee Funeral Home in Brandon, MS with burial at Lakewood Cemetery.
