Oliver Joe Odom, age 89, a resident of Morton died Thursday October 23, 2014 at the G.V. “Sonny” Montgomery Veterans Hospital in Jackson following an extended illness.
Funeral services were conducted at 11am Saturday October 25, 2014 from the chapel of Ott & Lee Funeral Home in Morton with interment in the Cedar Grove Baptist Cemetery near Lena. Visitation was held from 9am till service time . Rev. Randolph Scott officiated.
Mr. Odom was born to his parents Will Odom and Maude Johnson Odom in Carthage, MS on July 23, 1925. He was a member of Cedar Grove Baptist Church.
Mr. Odom served his country during WW II in the 88th Calvary Reconnaissance Squadron. He had worked for Talon, Inc. for 30 years until its closing and then he worked for Chief Pierre and Sara Lee until his retirement. Mr. Odom was truly a kind, generous man who will be missed by his family and many friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents and siblings; Eulus Odom, Hattie Harrell, Lucille Scott, Guy Willie Odom, Nannie Ruth Travis and Ruby M. Odom.
Mr. Odom is survived by his wife of 69 years, Marie L. Odom of Morton and numerous nieces, nephews and a host of friends.
Pallbearers were Alfred Harrell, Toney Harrell, Ollie Harrell, Jamie Johnson, Tye Lewis and Richie Lewis. Honorary pallbearers were John Black and Bennett Arthur Massey.
