Joe Ledger Whatley, 81, joined his heavenly father and reunited with his bride on December 18, 2021. Visitation will be 5-8pm Tuesday, December 21, at Ott & Lee Funeral Home in Brandon, MS. Funeral services will be 11am Wednesday in the chapel of the funeral home with visitation starting at 9:30am prior. Burial will follow in Floral Hills Memory Gardens in Pearl, MS.
Mr. Whatley was born on October 15, 1940, to Jefferson Whatley, Sr. and Lela Cooley Whatley in Lucedale, MS. He spent most of his life in Pearl, MS with his family. He was a Charter Member of Crossview Baptist Church. Joe retired from St. Dominic's Hospital where he worked as the Maintenance Supervisor at the North Campus.
He enjoyed spending his retirement, living for and loving on his grandkids. He loved to hunt and fish although I never saw or heard him kill his first deer at camp. He was there to enjoy watching his son and grands come to enjoy the sport. He loved is family, but he lived for his grands.
Mr. Whatley was preceded in death by his parents; siblings, Jim Whatley, Jack Whatley, Jefferson Whatley, Jr. “Jeff”, Nettie Jean Irwin, and Jean Durrett; wife, Diane Cavanna Whatley; granddaughter, Kylea Noelle Routh. He is survived by his children, Rebecca L “Beki” and James Routh; Terrie A and Chris Chapman and John Christopher “Chris” and Michelle Whatley; brother, Billy Whatley; grandchildren, Jeremy Kyle Chapman, Christopher Joe “Joey” Whatley, Joshua Daniel “Josh” Whatley, Noah Landon Routh, and Trista Shae Carlton; great grandchildren, Logan R Chapman and Vivian J Goldman; and numerous nieces and nephews.
