John Thomas “Rusty” Gray, 86, a resident of Pelahatchie, MS, passed away Saturday, September 23, 2017, at Mississippi Baptist Medical Center in Jackson, MS. Funeral services were held at 10 am Monday, September 25, 2017, at Crossroads Baptist Church in Pelahatchie, MS, with interment in the church cemetery. Visitation was held Sunday, September 24, 2017, from 4-7 pm at Ott and Lee Funeral Home in Brandon, MS.
Mr. Gray was a native of the Cooperville Community in Scott County, MS. He was the son of William Guy Gray and Clara Bell Cooper. He was a member of the Crossroads Baptist Church in Pelahatchie, MS. Mr. Gray was a retired Captain with the Jackson Fire Department in Jackson, MS. He was a member of the Five Alarm Fireman’s Club. He loved his family and spending time with them brought great joy to his life. He will be missed by all who loved and knew him.
Mr. Gray was preceded in death by his parents, William Guy Gray and Clara Bell Cooper.
Mr. Gray is survived by his children, Joan (Steve) Booker of Walnut, MS, Stan (Cindy) Gray of Perry, GA, and Susan Jones of Lena, MS; sister, Betty Crawford of Pelahatchie, MS; brother, Billy (Sandra) Gray of Pelahatchie, MS; grandchildren, Lindsey Kennedy of Anchorage, AK, SrA. James Kennedy of Fairchild Air Force Base, Spokane, WA, and Ginny (Brent) Nasworthy, Texas; special niece and nephew, Tammy Crawford (Willis) Clark; great niece Brittany Clark (Chase) Smith and her son, Kiptyn Smith; special caregiver, Anna Gipson; other family members and a host of friends.
