John Goldsmith Holaday, 80, passed away on Tuesday, July 24, 2012, at the University of Mississippi Medical Center in Jackson. Services are 3:00pm Thursday, July 26, 2012, at Pinelake Church in Brandon with visitation starting at 2:30pm prior to the service. Arrangements have been entrusted to the care of Ott & Lee Funeral Home in Brandon.

Mr. Holaday was born in Michigan but moved at a young age to Southern California with his family. John loved spending time with his family especially his grandchildren. He dedicated his life to helping and caring for others, in particular, his brother, James, who resides in California. John also enjoyed the movies so much that he entered and graduated from acting school while living in California.

During his early career, he was involved in the Teamsters labor union and organized political campaigns for that organization with a focus on obtaining civil rights for its members.

Survivors include his children, John Graham Holaday (Amy) of Brandon, James Lee Holaday (Kim) of Nashville, Jean Michelle Hodge (Stan) of Southaven and Sheri Nicholas (Greg) of Nashville; brother, James Holaday of Riverside, CA; 13 grandchildren and 8 great grandchildren; and a dear friend, Patty Kusch; he is preceded in death by his wife, Juanita Jean Holaday, and 2 daughters, Anne Marie Kelly and Lisa Lucille Nicholas.

In lieu of flowers, Memorials may be made to Blair Batson Children’s Hospital, 2500 N. State Street, Jackson, MS 39216.
