A special thanks is extended to Camellia Hospice for their excellent compassionate care.
Mr. Hyde was born in Montgomery, LA, October 30, 1926, the first son of Robert Frank and Audrey Starks Hyde. He is survived by his wife of sixty- seven years, JoAnne Glover Hyde, daughters Sheila Hyde of Santa Fe, NM and Martha Theriot of Brandon, MS and sons John Hyde of Georgetown, TX and Robert Hyde of Springfield, VA. He has seven grandchildren, Paul and Ann Theriot, Nathan and Austin Hyde, and Sarah, Benjamin and Jacob Hyde and four great-grandchildren. His surviving sibling is Iris Hatcher of Arlington, TX.
Following his service in the Navy during WWII, he continued his education on the G.I. Bill, graduating from Louisiana Tech in 1948 after which he went to work for United Gas and Pipeline Company. Transfers with that company eventually took him and his family to Jackson, MS, which became their home. Soon after arriving in Jackson, they joined Parkway Baptist Church which became their spiritual and social hub. In the following forty-one years Mr. Hyde served as a deacon, Sunday School teacher of high school boys, coach, choir member, outreach leader and prayer warrior. When faced with another business transfer and seeing how established he and his family were in that great church, he resigned rather than leave. While continuing his service in Parkway Baptist Church, he changed careers and entered the insurance industry, becoming one of the most successful agents for Lamar Life Insurance Co. In 1999 he and his wife moved to Brandon. They then moved their service to the Lord to Meadow Grove Baptist Church where they became faithful members and endeared themselves to their many brothers and sisters there.
John Hyde loved the Lord Jesus with all his heart, soul, mind and strength. His influence, prayers and ministry will have a lasting effect on all who were privileged to know him. His singing voice, along with all his other abilities have long since failed him. But, today, he, along with the saints in Glory sings with gratitude, “When this poor lisping, stammering tongue lies silent in the grave, then in a nobler, sweeter song, I’ll sing Thy power to save. I’ll sing Thy power to save.”
