John Etheredge Tyson, 72, passed away Friday, December 27, 2013 at Baptist Hospital in Jackson. Visitation will be held from 2-4 pm Sunday at Ott and Lee Funeral Home in Brandon. A graveside service will be held at 10 am Tuesday, December 31, 2013 at Bethany Cemetery in Colquitt, GA. Ott and Lee Funeral Home and Colquitt Funeral Home are handling arrangements.
John was a longtime resident of Huntsville, Alabama and has lived in Rankin County since 2000. He attended the University of Alabama and graduated from the University of Montevallo with a degree in mathematics in 1964. By profession, John worked as a Business Analyst for many years. He was very involved in the Democrat Party, having served as Chairman of the Rankin County Executive Committee and had also served on the State Executive Committee.
Survivors include his wife, Sherri Tyson of Brandon; daughters, Rebecca Tyson Levie of Madison, AL and Kara Tyson of Mobile, AL; step daughter, April Hill of Tulsa, OK; step son, Shad Hill of Plano, TX; sister, Dainie Tidwell of Ardmore, AL and granddaughter, Victoria Grace Levie. He was preceded in death by his parents, Howard and Ossie Tyson and grandchildren, Eric August Student II and John Thomas Student.
