John A. Mcdill

September 5, 1932 — April 6, 2016

John Anderson McDill, 83, passed away Wednesday, April 06, 2016 at his residence. Visitation is 9 am Friday, April 8, 2016 at Ott and Lee Funeral Home in Brandon. Services are 11 am Friday at the funeral home with interment in Floral Hills Memory Gardens in Pearl. Dr. Keith Grubbs will officiate.

Mr. McDill was a native of Scott County and a longtime resident of Pearl. He retired after many years of service from the City of Pearl as Director of Public Works. After retirement, Mr. McDill was very involved in the Rankin County Human Resource where he was simply just trying to help people. He was a faithful member of Park Place Baptist Church and was also a member when Park Place was known at Sunshine Baptist Church. He served as a Deacon, Sunday School Teacher and other various leadership roles. Mr. McDill was a Korean War Army Veteran and had a true love for coon hunting. He really enjoyed being around his hunting buddies and his hunting dogs.

Survivors include his wife, Lela McDill of Pearl; daughter, Redonna Derrington (Chip) of Pearl; sons, Randy McDill (Kathy) and Mark McDill (Kathy) of Pearl; sister, Viola Wooten of Florence; brother, Jimmy McDill (Sue) of Brandon; grandchildren, Lauren Smith (Billy), Erin Williams (Zach), Emily McDill, Hunter McDill and Laura Hunt (Jonathan); great grandchildren, Liam Smith, Saylor Hunt and Gaige Hunt.

Pallbearers are Hunter McDill, Jonathan Hunt, Billy Smith, Al McDill, Zach Williams, Ricky Kirby, Doug Garver and Lee Burke. Honorary pallbearers are Steve Ming, Johnny Williams and Daniel Knight.

Memorials may be made to University of Mississippi Medical Center Alzheimer’s Research Department, 2500 North State Street, Jackson, MS39216.
