Johnathan Wayne Johnson,
Brandon,MS

Although life is short, we often forget how short until another angel is called Home. On Friday, November 14, 2014, Johnathan Wayne Johnson “Johnny”, passed away while enjoying the great outdoors.

If you knew Papaw, as two little ladies love to call him, then you knew he was hunting or fishing, he was in heaven here on Earth. Every weekend, you could find him at Henderson Island hunting camp or in the Gulf of Mexico with his “Reel Worthless” tournament fishing team. Many know him as “Worthless”. He was given that nickname many years ago from a friend who said without his wife, Melanie, he was worthless. The love and devotion to their 26 year marriage represented a true blessing from Above. No matter if you called him son, husband, brother, Papaw, Worthless, boss, friend, or JJ, knowing him puts you among the lucky ones.

I was lucky enough to call him my Dad and to experience a kind of unconditional love that many often never know with a relationship full of care, support, and guidance. From taking me hunting, to attending my sporting events, or trying to embarrass me around boyfriends, my dad was one of a kind. I always told everyone, if he’s picking on you, that means he likes you. No matter where we were, his joking personality brought smiles and laughter to all. His role as Papaw was his favorite; those memories will be cherished always.

He was a hard working man, the president of Johnson Construction for the last 38 years, leaving many structures and buildings throughout the South to represent his perseverance and dedication to construction. He worked hard, played hard, loved hard, and enjoyed life tremendously. Not a day will go by that he will not be missed.

He is survived by his wife, Melanie Johnson, daughter, Nicki Reeves, and her children Raegan and Rivers Reeves. He also leaves behind his mother, Mildred Johnson, and 2 sisters, Sherry Pitts and Cindy Tarsi. His mother in law, Joanna Wolf, brother in law, Todd Hall, and two sisters in law, Sherrie Bankston and Sheila Moore.

Johnny was preceded in death by his father, Evan Johnson, his brother Paul Johnson, and his son, Johnathan Johnson.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Blair E. Batson Children’s Hospital or Mississippi Wildlife Fisheries and Parks Super Hunt Kids’ Hunting Program P.O. Box 14194 Jackson, MS 39236.
