John Henry Cockrell

Mr. John Henry Cockrell, age 85 passed away Friday, June 24, 2016 at the MS Care Center in Morton, MS. Funeral Service was held at 2:00 pm on Sunday, June 26, 2016 from the Ott and Lee Funeral Home in Morton. Visitation Services were held on Saturday, June 25, 2016 from 5:00 pm until 9:00 pm and again on Sunday, June 26, 2016 from 9:00 am until 1:45 pm with the burial in the Eureka Baptist Church Cemetery. Bro. Aaron Wood and Bro. John Goodhue presided over the services. Mr. John Henry was born November 1, 1930 to his parents Mr. and Mrs. Pevine and Emily Cockrell in Scott County. Mr. John was affiliated with the Jesus Name Church of Morton, MS. He loved his hunting dogs of all kinds, his deer dogs, rabbit dogs, coon dogs. He loved deer hunting, fishing, loved to run trot lines and gardening. He loved to sing, going to church and he loved the Lord Jesus Christ with a passion. He his preceded in death by his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Pevine and Emily Cockrell; his sons, Nelson Cockrell and Charles Henry Cockrell; his first wife, Mary Ann Martin Cockrell; and sister, Laverne Bates. He is survived by his present wife, Mary Dena England Cockrell; his children, Jo Ann Thompson (special friend Jama McCall) of Florida, Lynn (Donnie) Harrell of Morton, Jerry Dale Cockrell of Morton, Melissa Renee (James) Bailey of Morton, Larry (Belinda) Wood of Morton, Sherry (James) Palmer of Morton, Kathy (Tim) Hatch of Morton, Rev. Aaron (Jean) Wood of Morton, Rodney (Connie) Wood of Lake, MS; his twenty-nine grandchildren; thirty-two great grandchildren; and five great-great grandchildren. Serving as pallbearers were Donnie Lee Harrell, Johnny Cos Thompson, Michael Lane Bailey, Justin Dewayne Bailey, Larry Wood and Rodney Wood. Serving as an honorary pallbearer was Bill Lawrence. Arrangements are entrusted to the care of Ott and Lee Funeral Home in Morton.
