Johnie L. Brittain

Funeral services for Mr. Johnie L. Brittain will be conducted Saturday, August 1, 2015 at 3 P.M. from the Harperville Baptist Church. Interment will follow in the Clark Family Cemetery under the direction of Ott & Lee Funeral Home in Forest.

Visitation will be Friday, July 31, 2015 from 5 P.M. - 8 P.M. at the funeral home and one hour prior to the funeral service on Saturday at the church.



Johnie L. Brittain, 87, passed away Thursday, July 30, 2015 at Hospice Ministries in Ridgeland. Visitation is 5-8 pm Friday, July 31, 2015 at Ott and Lee Funeral Home in Forest and 2 pm Saturday at Harperville Baptist Church with services to follow at 3 pm. Interment will be in Clark Family Cemetery.

He was a Korean War Air Force Veteran and a member of Harperville Baptist Church where he served as a deacon. Mr. John was previously a charter member of Calvary Baptist Church where he served as a deacon, Sunday School teacher and in various other areas. He enjoyed his work with the Scott County Baptist Association, The Gideons International and was also a Mason. His prison ministry was special to him, as he traveled to Mississippi State Penitentiary at Parchman and local detention centers to share the gospel. Mr. John enjoyed his career as an insurance agent with Shelter Insurance Companies and spending time on his cattle and poultry farm.

He was a dedicated family man and touched many lives. He is survived by his wife of sixty years, Lorene Brittain of Forest; daughters, Debbie Tischer (Mike) of Petal, Susan Strebeck (Hugh) of Brandon, Jonnette Moss (Mark) of Ridgeland; sister, Virginia Gilmer of Forest; grandchildren, Chris Strebeck (Jessica) of Forest, Jonathan Tischer (Theresa) of Petal, Melissa Cobb (Justin) of Pontotoc, Erin Pollard (Michael) of Flowood, Cody and Nicole Moss of Ridgeland; great grandchildren, Lakin, Dillan and Presley Tischer of Petal, Ella Grace and Rylee Kate Strebeck of Forest, Hayden Cobb of Pontotoc and numerous nieces and nephews.

The family requests memorials to be made to The Gideons International.
