Funeral services for Mr. John Lamar Overstreet were conducted on Thursday afternoon, July 9, 2015 at 3:00 pm from the Kalem United Methodist Church with the Rev. Scott Adcox and Rev. Dobson officiating. Interment was immediately following the service in the Kalem United Methodist Church Cemetery under the direction of Ott and Lee Funeral Home in Morton.
Visitation was Thursday afternoon, July 9, 2015 from 1:00 pm until 3:00 pm at the Kalem United Methodist Church.
John “Johnny” Lamar Overstreet was born in Pascagoula, MS at the Singing River Hospital to his parents, John Lamar Overstreet Sr., and Princess Ann Smith, on September 19, 1966 and passed away on Monday, July 6, 2015 at his residence at the age of 48.
Johnny as he was called by most people lived in this area of Scott County for approximately 20 plus years after he had moved up from the coast of Mississippi. He loved fishing, singing, gospel music, and hunting deer, turkey, and squirrels. Johnny also loved being able to help others when he could and he also loved working in the garden and growing the tallest tomato plants in the world according to his family. He was straightforward in his conversations with others. He worked with R and S Construction as a welder for the last 3 years.
He is preceded in death by his father, John Lamar Overstreet Sr.; grandfather, James Grady Thomas and grandmother, Francis Thomas.
Johnny is survived by wife, Mary Sue Overstreet; and mother, Princess Ann “Thomas” Smith; daughter, Alyssa Prestage; sister, Beth Cawley (Nick) of Decatur, AL; brother, Jeremy Wade Overstreet (Heather) of Morton; stepbrother, Billy Smith of Mobile, AL; 4 step-grandchildren; 2 step-great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.
Serving as Pallbearers were Paul McClemore, Javarron (J.V) Smith, Stanley Allday, James Suddeth; and honorary pallbearers are, Matt King, Joel Overstreet, Brandon King and Chris McDonald.
Services were entrusted to the care of Ott and Lee Funeral Home in Morton.
