After a long and courageous battle with Parkinson’s Disease, Johnnie Sue Mangum Abernathy, 82, went to be with her heavenly Father. Visitation will begin at 12 Noon on Saturday, February 11, 2017 at Ott & Lee Funeral Home in Richland, MS. Funeral Services will begin at 1 pm in the Chapel of Ott & Lee with burial to follow in Lakewood Memorial Park in Jackson, MS.
Born in Magee, MS on September 29, 1934, Johnnie Sue went on to become a Supervisor of the Audit Department at the Mississippi State Rating Bureau, retiring with 36 years of service.
Johnnie Sue was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Wesley J. Abernathy; her daughter, Joyce Slawson; her son, John Russell Abernathy; her parents, Gladys and Gaston Mangum; and a sister, Annette McManus.
She is survived by her daughter, Shirley Abernathy Merkison of Ocean Springs, MS; a sister, Emmy Walker of Magee, MS; a brother, Billy Ray Mangum of Richland, MS; eight grandchildren; fifteen great grandchildren; and five great, great grandchildren, who were the loves of her life.
The family extends special thanks to the caregivers who took care of her the past three years and the Sta Home Health & Hospice team who attended to her.
