Johnnie Ward Smith

Mr. Johnnie Ward Smith, age 66, formerly from Morton, MS and a resident of Billdora Nursing Home in Tylertown, MS, passed away at the Forest General Hospital in Hattiesburg, MS on Friday, April 1, 2016. There will be a Memorial Service conducted at a later date by the family. Mr. Smith was born on April 7, 1949 to Mr. and Mrs. Bill E. and Helen “Massey” Smith Black, in Morton of Scott County, MS. Mr. Johnnie was a Christian by faith and attended the Church of Christ when able to do so. He loved playing sports in high school where he was active in football and baseball. One of the family shared that Mr. Smith loved and enjoyed fishing very much. Later in life he started drawing and loved art and he was given awards for his artwork by the MS Care Center.
Johnnie was preceded in death by his parents, Bill E. Smith and Helen “Massey Smith” Black; his brother, Tim Smith; his daughter, Rachael Helen Smith.
He is survived by his step-father, John Black of Morton; two sons, Matthew Jacob Smith of Brandon and Bryan Smith; his two sisters, Carol Purvis of Morton and Joan Black of Morton; one brother, Tommy Smith (Charlene) of Forest, MS.
