Johnny Ruth Dees Coulson, 83, passed away Saturday, January 8, 2011 at her home after a long illness. Visitation will be Monday, January 10, 2011, from 2 – 3 pm at Ott & Lee Funeral Home in Brandon, MS. Graveside Services are also on Monday at 3:30 pm at Brandon Memorial Gardens in Brandon, MS. Ott & Lee Funeral Home in Brandon is in charge of arrangements.

Mrs. Coulson was a native of Philadelphia, MS and a resident of Florence, MS. She was born in Philadelphia, MS to the late Gertrude Lois Eikner and William Henry Dees. She married William W. Coulson, Sr. in 1946 and after his time of service in the U.S. Navy, they moved to Starkville, MS where he graduated from Mississippi State University. After his graduation they moved to Jackson and soon started their family. They were members of and very involved in Leavell Woods United Methodist Church. They raised three children and she was a very devoted mother and wife. Her greatest love was her family and she was very active with her grandchildren. She loved working in her yard and enjoyed her cats.

She was preceded in death by her parents; by her husband, William Walter Coulson, Sr.; by her sister, Mary Dees Posey; and by three brothers, Elmer Dees, Melvin Dees, and Buddy Dees all of Philadelphia, MS.

Survivors include her daughter, Lillian Coulson Floyd of Florence; two sons, William Walter Coulson, Jr. of Florence and Stephen Dees Coulson of Brandon; grandchildren, Alex Coulson, Cameron Coulson Lampton, Jennifer Walker, Matthew Wann all of Brandon, Owen Coulson of Birmingham, AL, Dillon Coulson of Magee, and Tyler Coulson of Florence; and great grandchildren, Maury Coulson and Carter Coulson of Birmingham, AL and Caden Coulson and Jacob Coulson of Magee. She is also survived by a number of nieces and nephews.
