Joseph Vernon Mitcham went home to be with the Lord on September 18, 2021.  Visitation will be at Ott & Lee Funeral Home in Brandon, MS on Tuesday, September 21st from 10:00am to 11:15am.  Funeral services will follow at 11:30am in the chapel of the funeral home.  Interment will be in Pelahatchie Cemetery.

Vernon was born on July 12, 1946, to David and Willie Mitcham of Pelahatchie.  He was a lifelong resident of Pelahatchie.  He attended Pelahatchie High School, Hinds Jr. College, and the University of Southern Mississippi.  He retired from Mississippi Highway Patrol where he was a computer technician.

He was a devoted husband, father, and pop and he will be missed greatly.

He was a volunteer fireman for 26 years, a member of Pelahatchie Lodge for over 50 years and was a member of the Pelahatchie Methodist Church where he attended until his health began to fail and he served as a Trustee as well as being on other committees.

Vernon is preceded in death by his parents, David and Willie Mitcham; daughter, Amy Morris; son Chris Mitcham; and a brother, Bob Mitcham.

He is survived by his wife of 50 years, Mary; son, Michael Mitcham (Ruth) of Greenbrier, TN; and grandchildren, Timothy and Matthew Mitcham, and Tymber and Tristen Morris; as well as a number of nieces and nephews.
