Joy Smith Thompson, 62, a homemaker, died Tuesday, July 20, 2010 at Hospice Ministries, Inc. in Ridgeland, MS. Visitation is 5 – 7 pm Thursday, July 22, 2010 at Ott & Lee Funeral Home in Richland, MS and after 9 am Friday, July 23, 2010 at St. Jude Catholic Church in Pearl, MS. A Wake Service will be said Thursday evening at 7:00 pm at Ott & Lee Funeral Home in Richland, MS. A Funeral Mass will be said at 10 am Friday, July 23, 2010 at St. Jude Catholic Church in Pearl with burial to follow in the Palestine Cemetery in Raymond, MS.
Joy was born on March 31, 1948 in Raymond, MS to the late Archie LeRoy Smith and Inez Neal Thigpen Smith. She was a graduate of Raymond High School in Raymond, MS. She enjoyed playing several sports in high school and played amateur women’s soccer after high school. She served as a Eucharistic Minister at St. Jude Catholic Church where she was a Member. She had lived in the Richland area for the past ten years.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her two sisters, Jean Smith Guardenia who was her identical twin, and Lida Jo Cole.
Survivors include her husband of 42 years, Curtis C. Thompson of Richland, MS; three children, Mark Stephen Thompson and wife, Ashley of Mobile, AL, Stacy Thompson Ainsworth of Brandon, MS, and Kimberly Thompson of Nashville, TN; and five grandchildren, Andrew Thompson, Caleb Thompson, Anna Catherine Thompson, Emily Ainsworth, and Corey Ainsworth.
