Joyce Magee Allen, 86, of Brandon passed away Wednesday, June 1, 2016. Born May 5, 1930, she was a loving and devoted wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother. Her life’s mission was to love, nourish and care for others by placing others’ needs above her own. Above all things, she was a woman of faith, always willing to share the reason for her Christian hope.
Joyce was a longtime, faithful member of First Baptist Church of Fannin. In the community, she was renowned for her home cooking and canning and for her selfless acts of generosity. One never knew when she might surprise them with one of her special recipes crafted with care and love. Her greatest joy came in seeing others benefit from her selfless acts.
Visitation will be held at Ott & Lee in Brandon on Friday, June 3, 2016 from 5pm-7pm and at 10am on Saturday, June 4, 2016 at First Baptist Church of Fannin. Funeral services will follow on Saturday, June 4, 2016 at 11am at First Baptist Church of Fannin.
She is survived by her husband of 63 years, Edwin C. Allen; three daughters, Brenda Herrington (Roy), Carol Thigpen, and Elisa Sparkman (Doug); five grandchildren, Jud Thigpen IV, Nora Brasel, Rachel Bilbro, Abby and Rebecca Sparkman; two great-grandchildren, Brantley Thigpen and Cole Bilbro; twin sister Jamsie Boyles, and brother, Douglas M. Magee.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Whaley W. Magee and Eva Magee of Mize, MS, and her brother, Wilson K. “Bill” Magee.
