Joyce Pettis

Joyce Phillips Pettis, Mrs. Oliver Pettis, of Clinton MS, passed away peacefully at her residence on January 25, 2021 at the age of 76.  Joyce was born on January 19, 1945 to L.B. and Irene (Coulter) Phillips in Collins, Mississippi.

Joyce graduated from Sumrall High School in 1963.  On September 14, 1968, she married the love of her life, Oliver Pettis, and was a homemaker until he passed in 1981. Joyce and Oliver had three children: Ann, Michael and Ben.  She worked for many years at Parkway Baptist Church and Morrison Heights Baptist Church as a childcare provider and was adored by both the children and their parents.

Joyce was a devout Christian and loving wife, mother and grandmother.  She enjoyed spending time with her family.  Her grandsons were her greatest joy.  She will be missed tremendously by everyone that knew her.

Joyce is survived by her daughter Ann (Minor) Pace of Brandon; Son Michael Pettis of Clinton; and son Ben (Patty) Pettis of Clinton; grandchildren Jeffrey Rader of Brandon, James Rader of Brandon, Justin Halford of Brandon, Scott Pettis of Clinton, Patrick Pettis of Clinton, Jessica (Chris) Trawick of Madison and Jeffery Pace of Brandon; great grandchildren Jenson Rader and Jedidiah Trawick; siblings Mary Dennison of Georgia, Larry Phillips of Gulfport, June Garick of Collins and Jerry (Cindy) Phillips of Louisiana; and a multitude of nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents, L.B. and Irene Phillips; husband, Oliver Pettis; siblings Bessie Mae Raudabough, Kenneth Phillips, James (Oma) Phillips, Jacqueline “Jody” (Woodrow) Tims, Wallace (Agnes) Phillips, Betty Jean Phillips and brother-in-law Lyle Dennison.

Graveside services will be held at 12 noon Thursday, January 28, 2021 at Crestview Memorial Gardens in Brandon with Rev. Dexter Bambera officiating.

Pallbearers will be Jeffrey Rader, James Rader, Justin Halford, Scott Pettis, Patrick Pettis and Daniel Mosley.
