Joyce Christian Melichar

Funeral services for Mrs. Joyce Christian Melichar will be conducted on Monday afternoon, June 29, 2015 at 1:30 P.M. from the Forest Presbyterian Church with the Rev. Mark Smith officiating. Interment will be in the presence of the immediate family members under the direction of Ott & Lee Funeral Home in Forest.
Visitation will be prior to the service beginning at 12 Noon until 1:15 P.M. in the sanctuary of Forest Presbyterian Church, 337 East First St., Forest, MS 39074.
Mrs. Melichar, age 91, and a resident of Forest, passed away Thursday, June 24, 2015 at the Lackey Convalescent Home. She was born in Forest on October 26, 1923 to her parents, William Moore and Mary Banks Christian who preceded her in death. Her husband of over 66 years, Henry Melichar, and her brother, Henry Banks Christian, also precede her in death.
Mrs. Melichar was a member of the Forest Presbyterian Church. Joyce, the Sunshine Lady of the church, was devoted to her church and its’ congregation. She was involved in several clubs and organizations, particularly the Forest Garden Club. Always the hostess, she enjoyed entertaining friends and family. Joyce maintained a lifelong friendship with her high school Sub-Deb friends and MSCW classmates.
She is survived by four children: Randolph Melichar of Birmingham, AL; Melinda Koerber of Hattiesburg; Ken Melichar of Madison and Alan Melichar of Raleigh, NC; seven grandchildren; four great-grandchildren;
Pallbearers will be O.B. Triplett, Jim Grove, Mervyn Slay, Troy Nettles, Scott Palmer, and Bubby Johnston.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorial donations be made to Forest Presbyterian Church, 337 East First St., Forest, MS 39074.
