Kathleen Keyes

June 27, 1933 — August 30, 2017

Kathleen Ivy Keyes, age 84 passed away quietly on Wednesday, August 30, 2017 at Hospice Ministries in Ridgeland.   Kathleen was born on June 27, 1933 to Prentiss and Ruth Ivy in Nola, Mississippi, where she and her nine siblings grew up on her parent’s Lincoln County farm. She graduated at Heucks Retreat High School in Brookhaven, MS, where she excelled in sports, especially basketball. Kathleen fell in love with one of her brother’s best friends, Dr. Samuel W. Keyes, whom she married in 1951. Always the devoted, faithful wife and Godly mother, Kathleen worked various jobs to help her husband through undergraduate school at Mississippi State and Veterinary Medical School at Auburn University.

Kathleen was an accomplished stay at home mother who proudly and unselfishly dedicated her life to raising her three children, Sam Jr., Debrah, and Lynda. She was unselfish in her ministry to her family and others and exhibited Godly patience throughout her life and whatever challenges she faced.  Kathleen showed great pride and joy in her children, her five grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.  She was a longtime member of Broadmoor Baptist Church and later joined Lakeside Presbyterian Church where she was a member of the Circle Club.

Kathleen is preceded in death by her infant son Richard; parents, Prentiss and Ruth Ivy; brothers, Hugh, Prentiss, Jr., Donovan, Donald and Wayne; sisters, Marie Ivy Terry and Nola Alice Ivy Rutledge.

She is survived by her loving husband, Dr. Samuel W. Keyes; her children, Sam Keyes, Jr. (Ruth), Debrah Keyes Murray (John), Lynda Keyes Naramore (Ronnie); brother, Robert “Bootsie” Ivy; sister, Sarah Ivy Beason; grandchildren, Sam N. Keyes (Gretchen), Emily Keyes, Michelle Murray Mullins (Luke), Chris Murray (Victoria) and Corey Naramore (Jessica); great-grandchildren, Hayden Mullins, Hayley Mullins, James Keyes, Mary Keyes, and Cade Naramore along with numerous nephews and nieces.

Services are 10 am Saturday, September 2, 2017 at Lakeside Presbyterian Church with a 2 pm     graveside at Bethel Baptist Cemetery in Copiah County. Visitation will be 5-8 pm Friday, September, 1, 2017 at Ott and Lee Funeral Home in Brandon and Saturday from 9-9:45 am at the Church.
