Kathryn "Kitty" Colbert, a beloved member of her community and a cherished mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother, passed away on July 28, 2023. She was 87 years old. Funeral services to honor Kitty's life will be held at 1pm Friday, August 4, 2023, at Ott and Lee Funeral Home, with Pastor Reggie Tatum officiating the services. Prior to the service, visitation will take place from 11:00 am to 1:00 pm at Ott and Lee in Forest. Following the service, private interment will be held at Verona Cemetery in Verona, MS. Ott and Lee Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
Kitty Colbert was born on October 17, 1935. She grew up in Verona, Mississippi, and graduated as the Valedictorian of Verona High School in 1952. That same year, she married the love of her life, Donald E. Colbert. Kitty embarked on various professional endeavors throughout her life. Starting as a bookkeeper for Mr. Bobby Chism, CPA in Tupelo, she later joined her husband as they moved to Morton in 1974 to own and operate Fred's Dollar Store for many years.
After their successful venture with the store, Kitty found herself working at Community Bank in Forest as a switchboard operator. This dedicated role lasted for an impressive thirty-one years until Kitty retired at the remarkable age of 80. Known by everyone as "Miss Kitty," she touched the lives of countless individuals with her warm smile and caring nature.
Kitty's character exemplified her deep-rooted love for the Lord; she radiated kindness, generosity, and compassion toward everyone she encountered. She possessed an infectious laughter that brightened the days of those around her. Her mischievous sense of humor also led her to play pranks on her colleagues at the bank, bringing joy and laughter to the workplace. Life was an adventure to Kitty, and she embraced it with open arms, treasuring every moment.
Notably, Kitty had a special love for her furry friends. Her affectionate relationships with her kitties brought her tremendous joy and comfort. Their presence in her life was a testament to the tender-heartedness that Kitty exuded.
Kitty Colbert is deeply missed by all who had the privilege of knowing her. She was preceded in death by her parents, Dick and Marie Dickerson, her loving husband of 57 years, Don Colbert, and her beloved sister Gloria Carr of Monroe, LA. She is survived by her children: daughter Kitzi Norman (Meridian), son Dr. Don Colbert Jr. and wife Mary (Orlando, Florida), and her devoted son and caregiver, Dan Colbert. Additionally, Kitty leaves behind cherished grandchildren: Nick Norman, Kennedy Norman, Kyle Colbert, and wife Meridith; as well as great-grandchildren: Sawyer Skelton, Braden Colbert, Dylan Colbert, and Timmy Colbert. Kitty also touched the lives of many nieces and nephews.
Kitty Colbert's memory lives on in the hearts of those who loved her dearly. Her radiant spirit will continue to inspire kindness and laughter for generations to come. May she rest in eternal peace.
