Kazue Midori Inomata Mooney, 91, of Pearl, Mississippi, a much beloved wife, mother and grandmother passed away on Saturday, July 20, 2024.
A funeral service will be held in the chapel at Ott & Lee Funeral Home in Brandon on Thursday, July 25, 2024, at 11:00 am with visitation beginning one hour prior. The burial will be at Pearl Hill Cemetery in Carthage.
Midori was born in Shizuoka-Ken, Japan on June 12, 1933. She spotted Charles in his Air Force uniform and was immediately smitten…they were married in 1959. Together, they had three children, Carla, Tina, and Mark. In 1974, the family moved to Pearl, where she was a resident for 50 years until her passing.
Mrs. Mooney was a woman of many talents, she was an excellent seamstress, creating costumes for her church, Park Place Baptist. She and Charles loved watching their fruit trees grow, especially her Japanese Persimmons, which she shared with her friends. A great cook, she created beautiful cakes and made delicious preserves from her figs, blueberries, and muscadines…her homemade Japanese dishes were always a big hit…especially teriyaki fried chicken and gyoza. She was a wonderful homemaker and had been known to rearrange the furniture while her children were at school. Later in life, she discovered her artistic talents and enjoyed painting with oils and watercolors. Despite all her skills, Kazue never quite mastered driving. In the 1960s, while learning to drive the Volkswagen, she managed to hit the only tree stump in an open field and ripped the oil pan off. She only hit the carport a few times.
She was a supportive mother and loved her grandchildren dearly.
She is preceded in death by her husband, Charles Levone Mooney. She leaves behind her children, Carla Stegall (Kevin), Tina Stevenson (Alan), and Mark Mooney (Penny); grandchildren, Connor Stevenson and Mason Mooney; one great granddaughter, Juniper Stevenson and a brother, Shuhei Inomata.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Park Place Baptist Church at 5701 US-80, Pearl, MS 39208.
