Kenneth Michael Callahan, age 33, passed away in a car collision on March 17th, 2025. A celebration of life service will be held at Crossgates Baptist Church in Brandon on Monday, March 31, 2025, at 12:00 noon with visitation from 9:30 am until 11:45 am.
Born December 8th, 1991, in Jackson, Mississippi, he grew up in Pearl, and lived the last twelve years with his roommate, Arthur Kyles, in Jackson. He is preceded in death by his grandparents, Robert and Roxanna Coleman and George and Ouida Callahan. He is survived by his parents, Harry and Laura Callahan, and his sisters, Kirsten Callahan Bradshaw (husband Rex), Kaitlyn Callahan Page (husband Jonathan), and Kimberly Callahan Broadfield (husband Michael).
Kenneth worked as an Autocad and LiDAR engineer, and filled his free time with movies, photography, Dungeons and Dragons, construction projects, and exploring the latest tech gadgets. He loved to travel the country, and made several trips alone and with family, capturing many stunning images. He was a talented drummer, and in private played guitar and had a beautiful baritone voice. Kenneth was a brilliant writer, with a mind full of vivid color and imagery, a tender heart, and strong emotions. He loved to explore all the wide and far-reaching theories of science and philosophy. He gave his life to Jesus at an early age, and was dedicated to the Lord by his parents in May of 1992. He was diagnosed with Autism and ADHD as an adult in 2022, and was the first of his family to receive a formal diagnosis. This made him deeply empathetic, a person family and friends knew they could turn to for understanding in their own mental health struggles. A loving son and brother, he always made an effort to be present with his family, and we enjoyed many movie nights, birthdays, family parties, and games of Dutch Blitz together. We will always remember his great sense of humor, his quick wit, his perfectly-timed movie quotes, and of course his hugs. He wrote many treasured letters to us all over the years, and was the most encouraging, insightful, trustworthy, and kind person to those he loved. It was not uncommon to receive a deeply edifying text message within a few days of spending time with him.
In the last year of his life, he spent extended time with his older sister Kirsten–drinking coffee on the porch, and chatting about spirituality, mental health, family, and creative endeavors. They even had planned to start writing together again, as he had always hoped to be a novelist. His creativity, giftings, jokes, and encouraging spirit will live on in the hearts of those he loved best. His large presence has left a gaping hole in our lives and in our gatherings. Though he left this chapter early, he woke up to the next wrapped in the arms of his Savior. We know we will see him again.
