AND 1 PM THURSDAY AT FBC FLORENCE UNTIL THE 2 PM SERVICE.
Kirby Calvin Smith, Sr., 89, a lifelong resident of Florence, passed away Tuesday, December 7, 2010 at Mississippi Baptist Medical Center. Visitation will be today from 5:00 to 8:00 p.m. at Ott and Lee Funeral Home in Richland and Thursday, December 9, 2010, at 1:00 p.m. at First Baptist Church in Florence with funeral services following at 2 pm. Burial to follow in the Florence cemetery.
Calvin was born on July 4, 1921 in Florence, Mississippi to Melrose Eugene Smith and Katie Bullock Smith. He was a graduate of Florence High School and served in the U.S. Coast Guard for 4 years during World War II. He worked for the U. S. Postal Service as a window clerk in Jackson for 28 years. He was an ordained deacon and member of First Baptist Church Florence.
He was preceded in death by his parents; sons, Mark Thompson Smith and David Eugene Smith; daughter, Rachel Elizabeth Smith; son-in-law Lawson M. Smith; granddaughter, Amanda Ruth Slocum; two brothers, Burney Smith and Lamar Smith and one sister, Emma Virginia Roberts.
Survivors include his wife Irma Ruth Smith; son, Kirby C. Smith, Jr. and wife Linda; daughter, Diane Slocum and husband Charles; 7 grandchildren and 4 great-grandchildren.
Memorials may be made to the Baptist Children’s Village or the Lottie Moon Christmas Offering through First Baptist Church, Florence.
