Lamar Kermit "Mott" Watkins

Lamar Kermit “Mott” Watkins, 90, went to be with the Lord Sunday, September 20, 2020 after a long battle of illnesses and a broken hip in the last 4 weeks. A graveside service will be held at 3 pm Tuesday, September 22, 2020 at Homewood Methodist Church Cemetery with Bro. Doyle Boyles officiating.

Mott was born in Leake County on July 23, 1930 to Zella and Earl Watkins who preceded him in death. He was also preceded in death by his brothers, Brady and Herman Watkins and sister, Agnes Sykes.

Mott was a God Fearing and loving man. He was a member of Homewood Baptist Church and served in the United States Navy for 4 years. Mott was a funeral director for over 50 years and retired from Ott and Lee Funeral Home in Forest. Several years ago, Mott was recognized by the Miss. Funeral Directors Association with his 50 year plaque.

Mott loved playing golf and watching all sports on TV, but most of all he loved going to the local ball parks watching his grandkids and great-grandchildren play ball. He also enjoyed going to the coffee shop and having coffee with his friends.

Survivors include his precious wife, Willa Dean Watkins who has been his caregiver since many years of illnesses and his most recent injury of having a broken hip. She never left his side until Tuesday, September 15 when he was transferred from Rush Hospital in Meridian to Lackey Memorial Hospital in Forest. He is also survived by his children, Thomas Watkins (Millie), Jeff Watkins (Dana), Anita Chambers (Ronald), James Shoemaker (Kim) and Johnny Shoemaker (Reagan); 7 grandchildren and 7 great-grandchildren.

Pallbearers are Brandon Chambers, Dylan Shoemaker, Derek Wedgeworth, Tyler Hagan, Mason Watkins and Tony Wolf.  Honorary pallbearers are Corvain Brantley, Bobby McDaniel, David Goree and David Earl Spivey.
