Laverne Peavy Myers, 88, passed away on Wednesday, August 12, 2015 at her son’s home in Jackson. . Visitation is 5-8pm Friday at Ott & Lee Funeral Home in Brandon, MS. Funeral services are 4pm Saturday in the chapel of Ott & Lee Funeral Home in Brandon, MS with visitation starting at 3pm. Interment will be in Rehobeth Cemetery.
Survivors include her son, Jack “Tip” Myers; sisters, Sally Colvin and Jewel Smith; brother, Neal Peavy. She was preceded in death by her husband, of 63 years, Billy Jack Myers; parents, Nora and Sam Peavy; sisters, Christine Franklin, Nell Walker, Yvonne Steverson; brothers, James Peavy, Willie Ray Peavy, Percy Peavy, Charlie Ray Peavy(infant brother).
Laverne passed away after a long battle with Alzheimer’s disease at the home of her son, where she resided since the death of Billy Jack in 2006. She was born into a family of share croppers in Pelahatchie, MS. She attended Pelahatchie Schools and at the age of 16, she married Billy Jack Myers in 1943. In 1944 they were blessed with the birth of their son Tip. As Billy Jack and his brothers Ellis and Dub kept the sawmill running, Laverne was the gopher with Tip by her side. Later Jack and Laverne worked at Davis Little Ms Fryers, then Laverne worked at Stanwood Corporation for a number of years before retiring and spending their golden years together.
Jack would like to thank his close friends and family who have stood by and helped him through Mama Jack’s sickness.
In lieu of flowers, Jack request that memorials be made to the Rehobeth Baptist Church Cemetery Fund, Pelahatchie Baptist Church Building Fund or Leesburg Church of Christ.
