Lela Calhoun, age 82, and a resident of Lena died Wednesday, March 15, 2023.
Funeral services will be conducted at 3pm Saturday, March 18, 2023, from the chapel of the OTT & LEE Funeral Home in Morton. Bro. Ken McLemore, and Bro. Paul Smith will officiate the services. Interment will follow the service in the Contrell Cemetery. Visitation will be held prior to the service from 1pm till 3pm.
Lela was born in Attala County on June 22, 1940, to her parents Connie Seawright and Irene Turnage Seawright. She was a faithful member of the Lena Baptist Church. Lela began her working career as an airline stewardess. She later worked for Hederman Brothers Company and operated a poultry farm in the Contrell community which became home. She also worked at Scott Academy, and East Rankin Academy, where she loved working with and helping children. Lela was also talented in that she was an excellent seamstress. Living in the country, she enjoyed every day to the fullest. She was a God-fearing woman who knew the value of family and living abundantly. Anyone who knew Lela knew she was a portrait of a Proverbs 31 woman. She loved her family and enjoyed every moment of time with them, especially her grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. She will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved her.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, Richard Calhoun, and her first husband, Lamar Harrell. She was also preceded by a grandson, Hugh H. Haralson, IV.
Survivors include her three children: Eddie Harrell (Marsha) of Lena, Tommy Harrell (Becky) of Forest, and Gail Russell of Louisville, MS. Lela also leaves behind a legacy of six grandchildren; Ashley Harrell, Dallas Harrell (Christine), Brooke Christian (Noah), Bayley Alexander (Elliot), Cody Harrell (Sara), and Paige Stevens (Caleb), nine great-grandchildren; Laci Hampton, Maccie Hampton, Marshall Christian, Kaileigh Christian, Jaxson Alexander, Abram Alexander, Walker Harrell, Hazel Harrell, and Cruze Christian.
Pallbearers are Cody Harrell, Dallas Harrell, Noah Christian, Caleb Stevens, Elliot Alexander, and Marshall Christian. Honorary pallbearers are Donald Bufkin, Jaxson Alexander, Abram Alexander, Walker Harrell, O.B. Triplett, Michael Kittrell, Mack Kittrell, and Cruze Christian.
